Things sure have changed in less then a years time. Eleven months ago I was leading a quiet, subdued life. Then I started writing letters to the editor of the local newspaper, I didn't like what I saw happening to my country. I had to vent somewhere besides in my living room yelling at the television. After the presidential election I could not fathom how this man who promised to bring the change of socialism to this country could get elected. I heard people say that our new president was a moderate and would bring bipartisanship to our government. In Greek mythology the sirens' song to Odysseus was the promise of truth but it would only lead to death. Likewise Obama's siren song of moderation has fooled the electorate and we are now facing the possible death of the Republic. How can people now be surprised when Obama is doing exactly what he had campaigned on?
After the inauguration when the "messiah" rapidly shifted his socialist agenda into overdrive I new I had to do something besides write letters. That is when I changed gears from the slightly disgruntled letter writer to the "racist, brown shirt wearing, swastika carrying, un-american mobster". In other words I joined the tea party movement. Worse I helped organize a group in the bastion of Virginia liberalism, Charlottesville, home of Thomas Jefferson's University. I had progressed from an ordinary joe to a "domestic terrorist". From what I can determine, based on news reports and my attendance at several tea party rallies and town hall meetings there seems to be a large number of newly minted "domestic terrorists", and not to my surprise they come from all walks of life. I keep hearing from our Senators, Congressmen and even the President that these groups are funded by radical right wing groups but I have found just the opposite to be true. From the emails I have been getting and the hundreds of people I have met and spoken with none are involved with any organizations but all want to stop what is happening to their country.
Jefferson's spirit must be looking down from his home at Monticello in baffled concern over the country he and his fellow patriots had brought to fruition two hundred and thirty-three years ago. All of what the founders stood for is being torn down, what Katrina did to New Orleans the current administration is doing to our constitution. Hundreds of thousands died to end slavery, Obama is bringing it back in a new form. This is not the slavery that binds with chains but the one that creates slaves of dependence. If our Republic is to survive we must convince people that the more dependent they become on government the less freedom they will have until finally they will have given up their last vestige of independence.
