Our Republic's Prognosis Is Dire

Transparent: open to public scrutiny.  That is what we were promised by Obama, Reid and Pelosi. We didn’t quite get it. What we did get were lies, obfuscation and a piece of legislation that will lead us ever closer to a fascist style government.  Our Republic has never been in this much danger. We have survived a civil war and two world wars only to surrender to a group of politicians whose idea of the perfect government is the nanny state.

The American people have turned their collective backs on everything that our founding fathers held dear. Our founders wanted a Republic where citizens had the freedom to achieve whatever their abilities allowed. All men are created equal they said and have certain God given rights that among these rights are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. I am sure that our founders did not intend for the government to guarantee our happiness but should allow us the opportunity to gain it.

Over the past four weeks we have seen our Republic turned into a mobocracy. Princess Nancy has stated we won, get over it. Their mob rule attitude has taken away the rights of half of America. They claim to be doing what is right for our country but rush legislation through so fast that no one has time to read it. Their transparent government is about as clear as a foot thick brick wall.

Obama and company are in control and know that the only way to stay in power is to create the largest welfare state in our history.  The Democrats understand that once people become dependent on government, like a patient addicted to pain medication they will not easily come clean. These government doctors will then be assured of receiving votes from their dependent patients every election.

Our benevolent caretakers were very smart when designing this new Government “Drug” package. It was constructed as time released doses, with portions coming out over a two year period. That way during the next election cycle the “junkies” would know who to vote for so the doses would continue. Like real drug pushers, all you need to do is get the user addicted and you have them for life.

Unfortunately I believe this strategy will work because in six months if the people are still in economic pain it will be because they have not had enough medication. The Welfare HMO will then just push more medicine into the system. This will cause even more dependency and more control going to Washington.  With more control comes more power and a virtual guarantee of a significant majority in future elections.

With the 2010 elections past the prognosis for our country’s freedom will look even gloomier.  The cancer that had affected our ability for self responsibility will have metastasized to our free speech centers in the right side of our brain, thus eliminating most of talk radio. Shortly after that it will spread to our self defense node of the brain and we will give up our right to bear arms. Finally the area of our brain where we make our moral decisions will be attacked and we will find polygamy, every type of abortion and euthanasia of the elderly and disabled the right thing to do.  At that point the only medical course of action will be to put us into a drug induced coma and that will herald the end of what once was a great Republic.

Welfare Spending-The Never Ending Nightmare

For a number of years I worked in an upscale health food store. I was paid fairly well but because of the prices I felt that our family could not do the majority of our shopping there.  We would purchase certain items on a regular basis from were I worked but the rest of our shopping list was filled at the neighborhood supermarket down the road.  On a continuing basis we had several customers that did what appeared to be all of their weekly shopping at our store.  I mention them because they would buy their food with government food stamps. One couple in fact, bought bottled water for the family dog, seriously.  I guess because they didn’t have to work for the food that they were eating they couldn’t care less how much it was costing them.  Maybe I am nosey or maybe because I have to work for what I get but when I see someone use food stamps and see them get into a brand new SUV in the store parking lot I get irritated. I have been behind a WIC customer who then bought a cartoon of cigarettes. If you can’t afford to buy food for your children you should not be smoking. Talk to any cashier at a grocery store and they will tell you that people feeding of the government teat will in many cases buy better cuts of meat and name brand items.  Then they will whip out some cash to pay for their beer and cigarettes.

The reason for the above rant is due to the increased welfare spending in the stimulus bill.  According to the Heritage Foundation means tested welfare spending will increase by 20% in fiscal year 2009 the largest increase in U.S. history.   There are six other areas of welfare spending hidden in the bill that will cost nearly $60 billion per year. This although U.S.  welfare spending is at a historical high.

According to the stimulus bill these increases in welfare will end in two years but when was the last time a government program ended.  I can guarantee that in two years whoever has the nerve to suggest a cut in welfare spending will be demonized by the left.    How could you want to cut services to these poor people?  Hell politicians consider a reduction in the increase a program gets as cuts.  So do you think that anything in this stimulus bill will go away after two years?  Don’t count on it.  The only future I see for our country right now is higher deficits, continued increased spending, bigger and bigger government, high inflation and of course higher taxes.  I hope I am wrong but I am afraid that our children and our grandchildren are going to be left a real mess.

No Lobbyist Allowed

Obama’s ethic rules state that ex-lobbyists in his administration cannot work on issues they lobbied on for two years. I guess when you are President the rules can be bent.  William J. Lynn III Obama’s choice for Deputy Defense Secretary, the number two job at the Pentagon, spent the last two years lobbying for defense contractor Ratheon.  Former Goldman Sacs lobbyist Mark Patterson will be the new chief of staff for Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner.

These rules have been broken from day one.  From the beginning President-elect Obama has flouted his own rules. There have been dozens of members of his transition team  that have worked as federally registered lobbyists within the past four years.  They include lobbyist for drug companies(Amgen), high-tech firms (Microsoft), labor unions, trial lawyers associations, liberal advocacy groups(Center for American Progress) and mortgage giant Fannie Mae.

After looking at the President’s stimulus plan and proposed legislation I would say that it is payback time. He made the trial lawyers happy with the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act. His working on repaying the unions with the Employee Free Choice Act and of course there is plenty of pork in the “stimulus” package to make all his other “associates” happy.

Put on your seat belts and hold on for dear life.

A Tax So Simple Even A Politician Could Understand It!

Charlie Rangel, Timothy Geithner, Tom Daschle and so many other politicians have gotten in trouble over the years because of taxes. Now of course none of these people deliberately evaded taxes they just made mistakes. Whether or not you believe them is up to you. But let us for the moment say that yes, they were just human errors that anyone could make. Now if the people who help draft the tax laws are incapable of understanding it, how is the average American supposed to get it right? The tax code has 933 sections and it continues to grow each year. Check it out.  http://www.fourmilab.ch/uscode/26usc/www/contents.html

What can we do about this monstrosity? I believe the answer is in the Fair Tax Act. “The FairTax Act (HR 25, S 1025) is nonpartisan legislation. It abolishes all federal personal and corporate income taxes, gift, estate, capital gains, alternative minimum, Social Security, Medicare, and self-employment taxes and replaces them with one simple, visible, federal retail sales tax  administered primarily by existing state sales tax authorities.” (Fairtax.org). There are several books out written by Congressman John Linder and Neal Boortz explaining in detail how this tax would work and how it would benefit  our country. I would invite everyone to visit the FairTax web site and also to read the books, then call your Congressman and Senator and ask them to support the bills.

No Double Standards In My Administration

“Ultimately it’s important for this administration to send a message that there aren’t two sets of rules.  You know, one for prominent people and one for ordinary folks who pay their taxes.”: President Obama stated on NBC News. This statement was made yesterday after Tom Daschle withdrew his nomination for Secretary of Health and Human Services.   Besides Mr. Daschle’s withdrawal Nancy Killefer withdrew herself from consideration as part of the Presidents team, also because of tax problems. Timothy Geithner however got a pass. The President’s statement confuses me, I considered Mr. Geithner a prominent person but I guess Mr. Obama does not.

Mr. Geithner while working for the International Monetary Fund from 2001 to 2004 failed to pay his Social Security taxes which he had been told was his responsibility.   After an IRS audit in 2006 he paid back taxes for 2003 and 2004. Somehow Mr. Geithner never thought to go back to his 2001 and 2002 returns and correct those.  I guess he figured if the IRS didn’t ask why bother paying.

There is one other interesting twist to this story and that is the fact that Mr. Geithner was reimbursed by IMF for the Social Security taxes that he hadn’t paid.  Since he had to put in a written request for this reimbursement I wonder why he didn’t think that maybe he should have paid the taxes.  The President and many Senators stated that because of our economic problems we needed this position filled quickly. They told us how Mr. Geithner was the right man for the job because of his intelligence and expertise. I can only see two reasons why he did not pay his taxes both of which should disqualify him for this position. One, he didn’t know any better and is therefore not qualified for the job, or two, he is a crook and should have been charged with tax evasion .  Either way he is not the right man for the job.

President Obama you imply that there will not be a double standard in your administration but from where I stand there as many standards as you have Cabinet Members.
